Ingredients 

Masa Dough

  • 4 cups Masa Harina
  • 2 cups Chicken Broth
  • 1 cup Lard or vegetable shortening
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt

Filling

  • 2 cups Shredded Chicken
  • 1 cup Red Chili Sauce

Instructions 

  1. Soak corn husks in warm water for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix masa harina, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add lard and mix until dough is crumbly.
  4. Gradually add chicken broth, mixing until dough is smooth and pliable.
  5. Spread a thin layer of masa dough on each corn husk.
  6. Add a spoonful of shredded chicken and red chili sauce in the center.
  7. Fold the sides of the husk in, then fold the bottom up.
  8. Place tamales in a steamer and steam for 1.5 to 2 hours.
  9. Let tamales cool for a few minutes before serving.
