1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
2. In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.
3. Add the chopped onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
4. Add the mixed vegetables and cook for 5 minutes.
5. Add the rinsed rice, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
6. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
